Operation Brahma: India dispatches NDRF team to aid quake-hit Myanmar

India has dispatched an 80-member National Disaster Response Force team to quake-hit Myanmar as part of 'Operation Brahma' to assist in rescue operations. The first consignment of relief material was formally handed over to Yangon Chief Minister U Soi Thein by Ambassador Abhay Thakur in Yangon today. In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, "The 80-member NDRFHQ Search and Rescue team left for Nay Pyi Taw. They will assist in rescue operations in Myanmar. India has launched 'Operation Brahma' to assist earthquake-hit Myanmar. The C-130J aircraft of the IAF has brought nearly 15 tonnes of relief material containing tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, hygiene kits, generators and essential medicines. The plane arrived in Yangon this morning. According to the XP Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, two more planes loaded with relief materials are being sent to Myanmar. The aircraft will soon take off from Hindon Air Force Station. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Myanmar's military junta chief Min Aung Hlaing and expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the earthquake in Myanmar on Friday. He expressed India's readiness to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. He said disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance and search and rescue teams under Operation Brahma are being moved in rapidly to the affected areas.
