BJP's Dilip Ghosh Faces Outrage for Threatening Woman Protester in Kharagpur
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh is facing criticism after a video surfaced showing him in a heated argument with a woman protester in Kharagpur. During the altercation, Ghosh allegedly threatened the woman, saying, "Don't scream, I will choke you." The video has sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning his remarks.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh has sparked controversy after a heated argument with a woman protester. A video of the incident in Kharagpur has been widely shared on social media, in which Ghosh can be heard threatening to choke her.
Ghosh was in Kharagpur to inaugurate a newly constructed road in Ward number 6 when he was confronted by a group of local women. Kharagpur is part of the Medinipur Lok Sabha constituency, where Ghosh won the 2019 general elections.
The BJP leader lost his temper when a woman protester questioned his absence from the constituency during his tenure as an MP. "Where were you all this time? We never saw you even once when you were an MP. Now that our councillor, Pradip Sarkar from the Trinamool, has built the road, you have shown up?" she asked Ghosh.
In response, Ghosh reacted aggressively, accusing them of being Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters. "I built this with my own money, not your father's. Go and ask Pradip Sarkar," he retorted.
Following his remarks, another woman protester objected, saying, "Why are you bringing our father into this? You were an MP—should you be speaking like this?" The situation quickly escalated as Ghosh went on to threaten to choke the woman.
"Don't scream. I will choke you. I had allocated money for this from my MPLAD fund when I was a parliamentarian," he warned the protesters and he also referred to the protesters as "Trinamool's dogs."
Subsequent to the dispute, the protesting women reportedly surrounded Ghosh's car. Additional police team was called from Kharagpur police station to manage the situation. The incident has sparked criticism from the ruling Trinamool Congress, which accused Ghosh of using his position to intimidate ordinary citizens.
Addressing the matter in a post on X, Ghosh stated, "In Bhabanipur, Ward 6 of Kharagpur, a concrete road was inaugurated at a cost of ₹2.6 lakh from the MP fund. The area is quite low-lying and prone to waterlogging, so this road will improve their living conditions."
