PM Modi outlines India's 500 GW Renewable Energy goal by 2030

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and spoke at the India Energy Week 2025, where he detailed India's ambitious energy plans and emphasized that the upcoming two decades will be crucial for the nation's progress.

He said, "The next twenty years are vital for India, and within the upcoming five years, we are set to reach several significant milestones. Many of our objectives align with the 2030 deadline. By 2030, we plan to add 500 GW of renewable energy capacity. "

He stated, "Indian Railways has set a net zero carbon emission target for 2030. Additionally, we aim to produce 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. India has emerged as the third largest solar power producer globally, whose non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled in the last few years. Today, India is the third largest producer of solar energy in the world. Our non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled. At present, India has achieved 19% ethanol blending and we are moving towards implementing the 20% ethanol mandatory before October 2025."

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the swift expansion of India's biofuels sector, which is backed by a sustainable feedstock of 500 million metric tonnes. He pointed out that 'India's biofuel industry is set for significant growth, supported by a sustainable feedstock of 500 million metric tonnes.' Under India's G20 Presidency, the Global Biofuels Alliance was formed and is continuing to grow.

To date, 28 countries and 12 international organizations have participated in the initiative, which focuses on converting waste into valuable resources and creating centers of excellence. India has been consistently enacting reforms to optimize its hydrocarbon resources, resulting in significant discoveries and extensive growth of gas infrastructure.
