Operation Praghat: Assam Police nabs terrorist Naseemuddin SK
The Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) has struck another significant blow against anti-national elements through Operation Praghat, an initiative focused on dismantling radical networks and global terrorist organizations throughout the nation. Acting on precise intelligence, the STF Assam, with the active support of Kokrajhar police, conducted a swift and strategic operation, resulting in the successful arrest of key operative Nasim Uddin SK in Kokrajhar district on the morning of February 3.
"The arrested person has been identified as an active member of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JAM)," Assam Police CPRO Rajib Saikia said.
He was a close ally of Noor Islam Mondal, the main suspect previously apprehended by the STF in Kokrajhar for his role in extremist activities related to the same case.
From midnight on December 17, 2024, the suspect has been fleeing to avoid capture by the authorities. "An investigation has uncovered that the detained operative was a significant conspirator collaborating with Noor Islam Mondal to acquire weapons and produce IEDs with the intention of arming and empowering extremist groups," the CPRO of Assam Police said.
The CPRO stated, "Their objective was clear – to destabilise national security, disrupt peace and pose a grave threat to India's sovereignty. This arrest is yet another important step in dismantling the growing nexus of radical elements who seek to create disturbance and endanger the integrity of our country."
The individual has been charged under Sections 61(2)/147/148/149 of the IPC, Sections 10/13/16/18/18B/20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Sections 38/39 of the UA(P) Act, Sections 4/5 of the Explosives Act, Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, and Sections 13/14 of the Foreigners Act.
The man has been placed in police custody for a week after appearing in court. Authorities are currently investigating to uncover the complete scope of the terror network, which has significant connections across the border.
