Himachal Pradesh's tourism industry, especially in its capital Shimla, is facing a steep decline due to a number of factors, including lack of snowfall, the ongoing Mahakumbh and elections in Delhi. It has severely impacted the hotel industry, travel businesses, and transportation services, leaving many stakeholders worried about the future. Tour operators working closely with the tourism sector shared their concerns, saying that "there has been a drastic decrease in tourist inflow this season. Normally, 90 per cent of tourists visit Himachal Pradesh during this period, but now they are turning to the Maha Kumbh," he said. Elections in Delhi have also played a role in reducing the number of tourists. Moreover, the lack of snowfall has further discouraged visitors.

Locals said tourism has fallen by 90 per cent this season. The Maha Kumbh, Delhi elections and less snowfall have dealt a severe blow to our industry. Taxi operators, hotels and roadside businesses are all struggling to survive. Businesses dependent on Shimla's tourism are pinning their hopes on the change in weather conditions. However, without snowfall, the prospects remain bleak.

A local travel agent shared her plight and said that she has suffered huge losses this season. Travel agents said hotels and eateries are empty, and the transport system has collapsed. Snowfall is crucial to revive tourism, but given the current weather conditions, it doesn't seem to be the case. We are eagerly waiting for January 25 or 26, hoping the weather will be favourable," he said.

Maha Kumbh, a religious event with great cultural significance, has also attracted a large number of potential tourists from Himachal Pradesh. With the Delhi election looming, these factors have led to a drastic drop in the number of tourists. Businessmen hope that future weather conditions and the conclusion of these events will bring relief to the struggling tourism sector.
