The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a new facility for its over 7.6 crore member subscribers that will now help them make corrections in their personal information. Under this new facility, EPFO members will be able to update their personal information such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father's/mother's name, marital status, spouse's name, etc., online without the verification of the employer or the approval of the EPFO. This facility has come into effect from 18 January 2025.
Who will Benefit From It?
This facility will be given to those employees whose Universal Account Number (UAN) has been issued after October 1, 2017, as linking with Aadhaar became mandatory after October 1, 2017. Linking of UAN with Aadhaar is the main condition of this facility. Members whose UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, will also get the facility to update their details under certain conditions.
How Will It Improve?
Earlier, employees were required to get approval from the employer, and supporting documents were also required. Now the whole process has been simplified. Now employees can make changes to their personal information without the help of the employer. This change can be made directly on the EPFO portal. Apart from this, now the employees will not have to provide any kind of supporting documents for such corrections.
Claim Option will be Available Through Aadhaar OTP
Another important improvement is that employees whose EPF account is linked to Aadhaar can file their EPF transfer claim online without the intervention of the employer. Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password) will be used for this. Earlier, employees were required to get their EPF claim verified by the employer, but now the process will be completely online.
