Union Minister Gadkari Calls for Jail Time for Faulty Road Construction
Nitin Gadkari warns of tough action against road contractors and engineers
New Delhi: Poor road construction should be made a non-bailable offence, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday. Road contractors and engineers should be held responsible for accidents and should be sent to jail.
Speaking at an event organised by industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Gadkari said, "Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that India is number one in road accidents in the world. Faulty road construction should be made a non-bailable offence and road contractors, concessionaires and engineers should be held responsible for accidents or sent to jail. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways aims to reduce road accident deaths by half by 2030.
