Father Criticizes CBI, Awaits Court's Verdict in RG Kar Rape-Murder

Published on:

As the Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court prepares to announce the verdict in the RG Kar rape-murder case today, the father of the victim, a doctor, expressed on Saturday that whatever punishment is deemed appropriate will be determined by the court. Speaking to agency, he emphasized that they would continue to seek justice until it is served.

He said that the DNA report does not point only at one person. It points towards the presence of four boys and a girl. He added that unless and until people get relief and punishment is served, we shall keep knocking doors for justice through courts. Also, we will pray to the citizens of this nation to stand for us.

He also expressed his discontent with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He held the agency responsible for not solving the case. "The CBI has done nothing. We have raised numerous questions before the High Court and the Supreme Court, but we've asked the court to answer them, not the CBI. The court, in fact, handed the responsibility to the CBI."

He said the court had gone through all the evidence since the past two months and will decide the right punishment for this case.

He also told us how they tried to contact key officials in the government. They, he said, wrote to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Law Minister but received no reply.

The case, involving the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose body was discovered on August 9 in a hospital seminar room, has sparked public outrage. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime.

In November of last year, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a chargesheet related to financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, linking several people, including Sandip Ghosh, Dr. Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan. This probe was initiated by the Calcutta High Court.

Apart from the corruption charges, a case of murder was filed against Sandip Ghosh. During the investigation, the CBI took polygraph tests from him. Due to delays in filing the charge sheet, all the accused, including Abhijit Mondal and Sandip Ghosh, were granted bail.
