Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal. Locals have expressed happiness over the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel. He said that the people of Kashmir will get a lot of benefit from the start of this tunnel. A local resident said that this tunnel is very important. With the launch of this road, the road between Sonamarg and Ladakh will now be open throughout the year. Ladakh is very important because it is a border area. Earlier, goods were brought here through air service, but with the opening of the tunnel, goods could be sent via road.

Local People Expressed Gratitude to Government

He further said, "Sonamarg is a tourist area, the road used to be closed due to disaster and snowfall. But now the construction of the tunnel will benefit not only economically but also tourism. We are all happy that it has been built and we are thankful to the government for thinking about the people here. "The tunnel will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13 and I thank Nitin Gadkari for taking a lot of steps for this project," said Manzoor Ahmed. We hope to see more such projects here in the coming time.

Traffic Problems Will End

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on January 13 to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonamarg route. The tunnel will ensure all-weather connectivity to Sonamarg. The tunnel will bypass the road from Gagangir to Sonamarg, allowing tourists and locals to visit the hill station throughout the year. The Gagangir-Sonamarg section gets closed due to heavy snowfall and avalanches, which occur in the region every year. The Z-Morh tunnel is a 6.5 km long 2-lane road tunnel between Gagangir and Sonamarg in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. The road that was previously in use was affected by avalanches and was often closed for several months.

Construction of the Tunnel Began in 2018

But the Z-bend tunnel provides an all-weather connectivity to the tourist town of Sonamarg. It takes only 15 minutes to cross this 6.5-kilometer-long tunnel, while it used to take hours to travel on a zigzag path up and down the hills. It is one of the 31 road tunnels, of which 20 are in Jammu and Kashmir and 11 in Ladakh. The construction of the tunnel began in 2018. On October 20, 2024, there was a terrorist attack on the employees of the tunnel. Seven civilians, including six non-local workers of the infrastructure company constructing the Z-Morh tunnel, were killed in that attack. A local doctor was also killed in the attack.
