Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab's Ludhiana West constituency Gurpreet Gogi Bassi died of bullet injuries on Friday night. His death has triggered a wave of mourning in Punjab. The MLA was rushed to DMC Hospital for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead. Punjab Chief Minister Expresses Grief
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in an emotional message on social media platform X, wrote, "Received the sad news of the demise of our party's honorable MLA from Ludhiana West, Gurpreet Gogi ji. Very sad to hear, Gogi ji was a very good person. Heartfelt sympathies with the family in this hour of grief. May God give place to the departed soul at His feet. Police Gave Information About The Case
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja, while speaking to the media, said that according to the family members, the MLA accidentally shot himself and received a bullet injury in his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital. His body has been kept in the mortuary of DMC Hospital. The cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem report. According to officials, the incident took place around midnight on Friday and the legislator was declared dead on arrival at DMC hospital.
AAP President Sharan Pal Singh confirmed Death News
The MLA's death was confirmed by district AAP president Sharanpal Singh Makkar and police commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal. "The incident took place around midnight and he was declared dead on arrival at DMC hospital," DCP Jaskaran Singh said. Further investigation is underway. Gurpreet Gogi joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022 and defeated two-time former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Ludhiana Assembly elections. His wife Sukhchain Kaur Gogi had also contested the municipal corporation elections but lost to Congress candidate Inderjeet Singh Indy.
