Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK), Scotland and Guernsey from January 7-11. After reaching London, Om Birla visited the Bhimrao Ambedkar Museum. Sharing the pictures on the social media platform X, Om Birla wrote, "Had the opportunity to visit the Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Museum in London. The museum is a deep tribute to the life and legacy of the architect of the Indian Constitution. It stands as a living monument, preserving the spirit of his tireless struggle for social justice, equality and empowerment of marginalized communities. The collected exhibitions provide a glimpse of his multifaceted personality. Beyond its historical importance, Dr. Ambedkar Museum serves as an inspiration for all across the world.

Hold a Meeting with Indian Expatriates

Om Birla is visiting the United Kingdom from 7th to 9th January 2025 at the invitation of Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. He will meet Lindsay Hoyle and House of Lords Speaker Lord McFaul of Alclueth in London. Among his other engagements in London, Om Birla will lay a wreath at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and meet the Indian diaspora in the United Kingdom.

Om Birla to Preside Over CSPOC Meeting

During his visit, Shri Birla will chair the Standing Committee of the Conference of Presidents and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Guernsey on 10th January. He will chair this meeting as the host of the 28th CSPOC, which will be held in India in the year 2026. He will interact with his counterparts from other Parliaments during the meeting, which will give a boost to India's strategic ties. Birla will also visit Scotland and meet the presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone, and Scotland's First Minister John Sweeney. He will also interact with Members of the Scottish Parliament across party lines.
