On Thursday, the air quality index (AQI) in the national capital fell into the 'severe' category, as a dense fog covered the city, reducing visibility.

Multiple regions in the national capital experienced 'severe' AQI levels. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 478, Ashok Vihar had 474, Bawana registered 460, and DTU noted 461.

An AQI ranging from 0 to 50 is deemed good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory, 101 to 200 is moderate, 201 to 300 is poor, 301 to 400 is very poor, and 401 to 500 is severe.

In the meantime, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the city experienced a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the IMD predicts that haze and dense fog conditions are expected to worsen due to significant surface winds originating from the north.

Winter has arrived later than usual this year, so we anticipate it will be delayed next year as well. The temperature has decreased, and we can expect it to fall even more in the upcoming days," remarked the pedestrian.

People seeking shelter outside AIIMS are struggling with the cold weather. It is extremely difficult for them. As temperatures are predicted to drop further, their situation will become even more problematic. It is important for individuals to take precautions in such conditions and keep an eye on their body temperature.

As per the IMD, the city registered a low of 5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. GRAP Phase IV measures have been implemented throughout the NCR since December 16 due to worsening air quality. This decision was made when Delhi's AQI exceeded the 400 threshold.

The AQI was measured at 399 at 9 pm on Monday, and by 10 pm, it had escalated to the severe category at 401.
