Nitin Gadkari Unveils Massive Project to Reduce Delhi's Traffic
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government is working on a project to tackle both pollution and traffic jams in the national capital. He, however, admitted that the transport department is responsible for nearly 40 per cent of pollution, adding that the ministry is working on a project that will tackle both pollution and traffic jams in the national capital.
Nitin Gadkari's Statement
Speaking at the Times Network's India Economic Conclave in New Delhi, the Union Minister said, "At present, I am working on a project worth Rs 65,000 crore in Delhi, which will reduce traffic jams and pollution in the city. "First of all, 40 per cent of air pollution is caused by our department. The Ministry of Transport is responsible. "
Dealing with Pollution and Traffic Jams
"Secondly, the main cause of pollution in Delhi is the stubble emanating from rice fields in Punjab, Haryana and adjoining areas. It is 200 lakh tonnes. We have now decided to start a project in Panipat using this stubble, which will produce 1 lakh litre of ethanol, 150 tonnes of bio-vitamins and 88 thousand tonnes of bio-aviation fuel. Currently, 400 projects are in process, and 40 of them have already been completed. In these projects, CNG is being produced from the stubble. This has resulted in the use of a total of 60 lakh tonnes of stubble, which has helped in reducing pollution. "
Government's new plan
Further, he reiterated the need to promote the use of alternative and biofuels. "Import of fossil fuels is worth Rs 22 lakh crore. Even if we can bring it down to Rs 10 lakh crore, pollution in our country will come down. The minister also highlighted the importance of alternative fuels and electric vehicles, which would be at par with the cost of diesel and conventional engine vehicles.
