Farmer Leader Sarwan Singh Criticizes Government
On the twelfth day of the farmers' hunger strike at the Sambhu border, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher condemned the government for purportedly misleading the public with empty promises.
Why are farmers, who are merely walking, being subjected to such harsh treatment? To pacify the anger, the government is making empty promises about providing the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
However, our responsibility goes beyond merely announcing MSP; it involves actually purchasing the crops from the mandis after declaring the MSP. Our demand is for the crops to be bought, and Shivraj Chouhan should not mislead the public," the farmer leader stated to the media.
Pandher mentioned that they had previously committed to providing half of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, acknowledging that the amount given was inadequate. He also stated that a group of 101 farmers would leave for the national capital tomorrow (December 8) at 12 noon, emphasizing their desire to maintain peace and ensure no regulations are broken.
"Taking cognisance of the whole situation, tomorrow at noon, a group of 101 will depart for Delhi. Our hunger strike has entered its 12th day... Our group will go peacefully and ensure no regulations are violated," the farmer leader said. Pandher further urged the Prime Minister to engage in a dialogue with farmers.
Pandher called on the government on Saturday to resolve farmers' concerns and the actions of security forces in Parliament. Reports indicate that security forces deployed tear gas to disperse protestors on Friday after farmers initiated the 'Dilhi Chalo' march, seeking a legal guarantee or Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops from the central government.
Parliament is our sanctuary of democracy, and we seek discussions on farmers' concerns. In parliament, neither the government nor the opposition addressed our issues regarding the ruthless behavior of central forces at the Shambhu border,
