Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Vinay Saxena, has given the green light for the appointment of 15,000 Home Guards in the city on Tuesday. Until now, Delhi had 10,000 home guards, but this number will now rise to 25,000.

In an official statement issued on the 4th, Vinay Saxena mentioned that appointment letters were given to 1,669 home guards out of the 10,000 on Tuesday.

Vinay Saxena, while attending a program in Delhi, discussed the Home Guards and mentioned that with the appointment of 15,000 new Home Guards, the total number in Delhi will reach 25,000. Among the 1,669 Home Guards who received appointment letters, 226 were previously Civil Defence volunteers who had served as marshals in DTC buses.

Last year, a number of Home Guards, including 181 women, were dismissed from their positions. In January 2024, LG Vinay Saxena also authorized the recruitment of 10,285 new Home Guards.

LG Vinay Saxena instructed that CDVs be given priority in the Home Guard selection process and that they should receive additional credit points.

The decision made by LG Vinay Saxena was challenged in court by certain individuals, leading to a halt in the recruitment process for 7,939 home guard positions.

Despite this, the LG authorized the appointment of 2,346 home guards who had successfully passed the physical fitness and written tests. Of these, 1,669 candidates cleared the medical examination. On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the LG of Delhi issued appointment letters to them.
