Secure Your PAN with a QR Code: Apply for Free e-PAN Now

The Indian Government has recently introduced PAN 2.0 for its citizens, an enhanced version of the PAN card that is deemed more secure due to the inclusion of a QR code. Although a QR code was added to PAN cards in 2017-18, many users still possess the older version without the QR code.

Although PAN 2.0 is still a few months away from its official release, you can apply for the new PAN 1.0 using a QR code in the meantime, and the process is detailed below.

The Ministry of Finance states that using a QR code scanner can effortlessly display the PAN holder's photo, signature, name, parents' names, and date of birth to anyone, thereby simplifying the verification of the information on the physical PAN card.

Please note that your current PAN card without a QR code will still be valid. Applying for a PAN card with a QR code is only required for those who need it.

To get an upgraded PAN 1.0 with a QR code, you will need your PAN details, phone number, and the email ID associated with that PAN. Depending on your application, you will need to apply for PAN 1.0 through NSDL or UTIITSL. You will also have the option to receive a physical PAN card with an ePAN or just a QR code.

On the other hand, individuals who obtained their PAN last month can download the ePAN for free, whereas those with older PANs need to pay Rs 8.26 to receive an ePAN with a QR code.

Likewise, a Rs 50 deposit is required to obtain a physical QR code. The ePAN containing the QR code will be delivered as a password-protected PDF for added security.
