There was a war between India and Pakistan in 1971. On December 3, Pakistan attacked the Indian airport. The Indian Navy had planned the attack on the night of December 4 and 5 and carried out "Operation Trident".

The army had inflicted heavy casualties on the Pakistani Navy. The Indian Navy was led by Commodore Kasaragod Pattanashetty Gopal Rao in this mission. Acknowledging the achievements and efforts of the Navy, it has been decided to celebrate December 4 as Navy Day.

The Indian Navy was Established in 1612
