PM Modi to Implement New Criminal Laws in Chandigarh on Constitution Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the successful implementation of three transformative new criminal laws - Indian Code of Justice, Indian Civil Defence Code and Indian Evidence Act in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Modi said it was a matter of "great happiness" that these laws were being enacted at a time when the country was celebrating 75 years of adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly.
Implementation of Criminal Laws in Chandigarh
"A special day in our efforts to ensure speedy justice to every Indian and at the same time break free from colonial mindset.
Today at 12 noon, Chandigarh will attend the event to mark the successful implementation of three new criminal laws, namely the Indian Code of Justice, the Indian Civil Defence Code and the Indian Evidence Act.
Happily, these laws are coming into force at a time when we are celebrating 75 years of our Constitution adopted by the Constituent Assembly," PM Modi posted on X.
Prime Minister's Vision For Three Criminal Laws
The concept of the three laws was inspired by the Prime Minister's vision, which was to remove colonial-era laws that had survived even after Independence, and transform the judicial system by focusing on justice from impunity.
Keeping this in mind, the theme of the event is "Safe Societies, Developed India- From Punishment to Justice", an official release stated. The program will demonstrate the practical application of these laws, demonstrating how they are already reshaping the criminal justice landscape.
A live demonstration will also be held, simulating crime scene investigations where new laws will be put into action. The new criminal laws that were implemented across the country on July 1, 2024, aim to make India's legal system more transparent, efficient, and adaptable to the needs of contemporary society.
These landmark reforms symbolise a historic shift in India's criminal justice system bringing in new frameworks to deal with modern challenges such as cybercrime, organised crime and ensure justice for victims of various crimes.
