Farmers' march to Delhi for MSP guarantee blocked by police
Police use barricades to halt farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' protest
On Monday, farmer leader and national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, stated that farmers involved in the 'Delhi Chalo' protest were halted by police barricades as they attempted to march towards Delhi to demand a resolution to their agricultural issues and a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP). The protest, organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and other farmer groups, is occurring in the Noida-Delhi area under strict security and traffic advisories. Speaking about the 'Delhi Chalo' march, Tikait told ANI, 'Farmers have been stopped at Mahamaya flyover. Farmers want to go to Delhi because the solution will come from Delhi itself,' he said. The police are stopping the farmers, but they are determined to reach Delhi.
A comprehensive three-level safety strategy has been put into place for protection
Discussing the participation of Punjab farmers in the 'Delhi Chalo' march on December 6, he mentioned, 'Punjab has a unique system. They are distinct individuals.' Meanwhile, an official announced on Monday that a three-tier security arrangement has been established, with security forces stationed in Noida and parts of Delhi in anticipation of the 'Delhi Chalo' protest march. In Noida, Additional Commissioner of Police Shivhari Meena stated, 'We are in continuous communication with the farmers regarding the 'Delhi Chalo' march. Yesterday, we engaged in a three-hour discussion with them. We have devised a three-tier security strategy. Approximately 5,000 police personnel are conducting checks at various locations. Additionally, we have issued a traffic advisory and deployed around 1,000 PAC personnel.'
A traffic alert was released to maintain orderly flow
Water cannons and other preparations have been arranged. The police emphasized ongoing communication with farmers and efforts to manage traffic efficiently. A traffic advisory has been issued to ensure smooth arrangements. Safety measures include the deployment of water cannons, TGS squads, fire squads, and other resources for emergency and traffic management. On Monday morning, the Noida police tightened security measures and inspected vehicles after issuing a comprehensive traffic advisory, anticipating disruption from the farmers' protest march towards Delhi. The protest, organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) along with other farmer groups, demands compensation and benefits related to farm reforms, including a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP).
