Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu Announces World-Class Upgrade for Jalandhar Cantt Station

Jalandhar Cantt: Union Minister Ravneet Singh visited the Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station today and directed the officials to complete the work within the stipulated time limit without compromising on the quality. Kavach installation proposal and automatic block signalling were introduced in Firozpur division. The project consists of reconstruction of 12 railway stations in Firozpur division of Punjab at a cost of Rs 270 crore under AMRUT Bharat. The new building of Jalandhar Cantt railway station will be dedicated to the public by the first quarter of 2025. Giving information on the project, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu said that the officers have been instructed to carry out quality work in a time bound manner.

Jalandhar Cantt to be included in world-class railway station

The work of redeveloping Jalandhar Cantt railway station into a world-class railway station is in full swing. The Jalandhar Cantt railway station currently handles around 7400 passengers daily and an average of 141 trains pass through it, including 2 Humsafar and 1 Vande Bharat train. During the financial year 2024-25 till the month of October, the average passenger revenue per day is Rs 16.30 lakh and the average revenue per day from parcel service is Rs 0.51 lakh.

After being completed at a total cost of Rs 99 crore, Jalandhar Cantt railway station will have separate arrangements for both arrival and departure of passengers. Construction of iconic station building with world-class passenger amenities and cultural based artworks Integration of both sides of the city and Gold rated green building making optimum use of natural ventilation and lighting on both sides of the station, all passenger amenities i.e. retail, cafeteria, entertainment facilities, construction of luxurious concourse for large gatherings at one place, There will be 10 lifts and 9 escalators for passenger convenience, ample parking with pick and drop facility for smooth traffic flow, signage and digital display for all types of travel-related information.

Motive to provide security to trains- Ravneet Singh Bittu

Emphasizing on the safety of passengers travelling in trains, Union Minister Ravneet Singh said that the provision of automatic block signalling between Ludhiana-Jalandhar section has been approved at a cost of Rs 71.25 crore and tenders have been invited for the same. The proposal to install Kavach in 1513 km has been taken up by Firozpur Division. Srinagar-Jalandhar-Jammu, Jammu-Amritsar, Amritsar-Pathankot and Amritsar-Khemkaran sections of FZR Division (549 kms), Ferozepur-Ludhiana, Ferozepur-Jalandhar of FZR Division (452 kms), Ferozepur-Fazilka to Kotkapura-Fazilka-Abohar sections of FZR Division (452 kms) have provision of Kavach.

There is provision of shield on Amritsar-Attari, Beas-Tarn Taran, Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur, Phillaur-Lohian Khas and Phagwara-Nawanshahr balancing route of FZR Division (300 km) and Jammu-Udhampur-Katra and Banihal-Baramulla sections of FZR Division (212 km). Train Collision Avoidance System (Kavach) is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, aimed at Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), providing protection to trains against excessive speeds and collisions.

Expansion of 12 railway stations

Elaborating further on the ongoing works in Firozpur Division, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu said that 12 railway stations of Punjab are being redeveloped as Amrit Bharat stations at a cost of Rs 270 crore, including Dhandari Kalan, Phillaur, Phagwara, Kotkapur, Muktsar, Ferozepur Cantt, Fazilka, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot City. Manoranjan Kalia, Sushil Rinku, KD Bhandari, Sarabjit Makkar and DRM Ferozepur Division Sanjay Sahu were also present during the visit.
