New Speed Limits on Yamuna Expressway to Curb Winter Accidents
Yamuna Expressway New Speed Limit: Winter fog has led to a rise in road accidents. Consequently, the speed limit has been adjusted on the Yamuna Expressway and Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
The Yamuna Development Authority has declared that new rules will be applied to these two expressways from December 15 to February 15. The maximum speed limit is set at 80 km/h for light motor vehicles and 60 km/h for heavy vehicles. There will be designated hours.
The Yamuna Authority mentioned that the choice is influenced by the likelihood of reduced visibility and slick roads in the winter season.
This will aid in reducing road accidents. With this modification, significant steps have been implemented to enhance safety on the Yamuna Expressway.
The number of patrolling vehicles has increased from 11 to 15. Furthermore, six ambulances, six cranes, and six fire engines will be accessible for emergencies. A special project is in progress to add reflector tape to vehicles to improve their visibility and reduce the chances of accidents.
Strict Measures to Be Implemented for Overloaded Vehicles
To ensure road safety during winter, stringent measures will be enforced against overloaded vehicles. Four teams will be stationed from the Zero Point of Yamuna Expressway to the Jewar toll.
These teams will keep an eye on overloaded vehicles and will charge heavy fines for violating the rules. Light vehicles will be fined Rs 2000 and heavy vehicles Rs 4000.
The Yamuna Authority's CEO stated that this decision will enhance safety for travelers on the expressway. Winter accidents are expected to decrease considerably. Officials announced that those who exceed the speed limit during this period will be fined. More serious violations will be dealt with accordingly.
