Parliament Winter Session: Rajnath Singh Holds Meeting with Opposition Leaders
The Meeting Was Chaired By Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a statement issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs said. The meeting was attended by 42 leaders of 30 political parties including ministers.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju welcomed the gathering at the meeting of leaders of both Houses of Parliament. In his inaugural address, he said the Winter Session of Parliament will begin on Monday and subject to the exigencies of government business, the session may end on December 20.
The session will have 19 sittings spread over a period of 26 days. He also informed that 16 items of legislative business and 1 item of financial business have been identified during this session.
How the winter session will be conducted?
The release stated, "The government is always open to discussing any issue in the House, as allowed by the relevant presiding officers under the Rules of Procedure and Business Conduct." He urged all party leaders to actively cooperate and support the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament.
Rijiju informed the leaders that there would be no meeting on November 26, as the country will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. This will be followed by a year-long series of activities across the country.
The meeting was also attended by Jagat Prakash Nadda, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, as well as the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, who is also the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha; Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and L. Murugan, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his gratitude to all the leaders for raising crucial issues during the meeting, noting that these concerns have been acknowledged. He also affirmed that the government is ready to discuss these matters in accordance with the rules of the respective Houses of Parliament and the decisions of the respective Presiding Officers.
