Tallying has been finished for 12 out of the 17 rounds

In the biggest – and toughest – contest in Maharashtra – Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray is leading in south Mumbai's Worli constituency over the party's Eknath Shinde faction candidate Milind Deora.

By 1.45 pm on Saturday, former Congress MP Deora, who quit the party in January to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, was trailing behind the young Thackeray by a margin of 6120 votes.

According to the Election Commission website, counting of votes for 12 out of the total 17 rounds has been completed so far. After the counting began, Thackeray was initially leading but the situation changed and Deora was overtaken by a narrow margin.

After this, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader again took the lead.

Aaditya Thackeray emerged victorious in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Aaditya Thackeray had made his electoral debut from the Worli constituency and emerged victorious by a huge margin of over 67,000 votes.

However, the area is part of the Mumbai (South) Lok Sabha constituency, which has been a stronghold of the Deora family for long. Murli Deora won the Mumbai (South) seat thrice between 1984 and 1991 and again in 1998.

After that, his son Milind Deora was elected MP from Congress twice in 2004 and 2009. In 2014, the Shiv Sena started winning from here and sitting MP Arvind Sawant sided with the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena after the split of the party in 2022 and won again this year.

Deora - "Fight between him and Aaditya Thackeray was not personal"

Before the Assembly polls, Deora, a Rajya Sabha MP, had said that the fight between him and Aaditya Thackeray was not personal but added that the Worli MLA and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena had failed to develop the constituency.
