Nehru was affectionately called 'Chacha Nehru' and was known for emphasizing the importance of giving love and affection to children. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also paid tribute to former PM Nehru at Shanti Van in Delhi. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress President paid tribute by posting on X. Children's Day is celebrated every year on 14 November in honor of the first Prime Minister of independent India.

Birthday made 'Children's Day'

After the death of Nehru, it was unanimously decided in India to celebrate his birthday as 'Children's Day' or Children's Day. Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He breathed his last on May 27, 1964. After playing an active role in the country's freedom struggle, he became the Prime Minister on August 15, 1947. On this day, several activities like sports, competitions, etc. are organized for students in schools across the country, while government bodies pay tribute to the late Prime Minister and organize commemorative programs on this day. In 1954, the United Nations declared November 20 as the universal Children's Day and India used to celebrate Children's Day on that day before 1956, but after the death of Prime Minister Nehru in 1964, a resolution was passed unanimously in the Parliament declaring Pandit Nehru's birth anniversary as National Children's Day.
