India-Taliban relations: Taliban Extends Hand of Friendship with India

Taliban Government: The Taliban government has extended a hand of friendship to India. Under this, he has appointed an acting counsel in the Afghan mission in Mumbai. The name of that person is Ikramuddin Kamil. According to Afghan media, this is the first appointment by the Taliban for an Afghan mission in India. Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry has shared information about Kamil's appointment in Mumbai.

Representing Islamic Emirate: Report

Afghan media reports said Ikramuddin was in Mumbai. There he is representing the Islamic Emirate. The appointment is seen as Kabul's efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with India and increase its overseas presence. Kamil has a PhD in International Law. He was previously Deputy Director in the Department of Security Cooperation and Border Affairs of the Ministry of External Affairs. Now he is expected to make consular services easier for Afghan nationals in Mumbai. They will also represent Afghanistan's interests in India.

Ashraf Ghani's Appointed Diplomat has Left India

Kamil's appointment came after India's External Affairs Ministry's Afghanistan chief held talks with acting Taliban Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob in Kabul. Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai also posted on social media about Kamil's appointment. The presence of diplomatic staff in India has been zero since the Taliban regime came to Afghan missions. Most of the diplomats, who were appointed by the Ashraf Ghani government, have left India.

Zakia Wardak Resigned

In May, Afghanistan's senior-most diplomat, Zakia Wardak, resigned from the post. Wardak took charge of the Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi in November 2023. Ambassador Farid Mamanzai, who was posted there before him, had gone to the UK.
