Punjab Congress Chief Slams AAP for Mandi Delays, Farmer Hardships
To show solidarity with the farmers of Punjab, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring visited the mandi at Bharu in Gidderbaha, where he spent the night with farmers whose crops are rotting waiting for government procurement.
Waring Slammed the Aam Aadmi Party
Dine with the farmers, many of whom have been in the mandi for over 20 days, Waring slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which forced farmers to endure such unjust conditions.
Why did our Farmers Sit in Darkness this Diwali?
"This Diwali, when the entire country was celebrating in lights, our farmers sat in darkness, forced to observe a black Diwali due to the neglect towards their well-being on the part of the Punjab government. The government has left the life of our state i.e. the farmer to suffer without any support or action. We are here with full force to ensure that their voices reach the corridors of power," Waring said, highlighting the gap between the celebration of festivals and the dire situation faced by Punjab's annadatas.
Why are Farmers Disappointed?
"We are here for the last 20-25 days," the farmers said expressing disappointment. Our produce is being wasted, food is getting moisturised and perishing. All our hard work is being wasted in this season and we are not being given the money that is entitled to grow paddy. The government has advised certain varieties of paddy which we have grown, but still our voice is not being heard and the government is not working for the farmers. Rather, it is working against the farmers of Punjab and the entire state of Punjab.
Government is Silent !
"During his visit, the PPCC chief interacted with Avtar Singh, who has been in Mandi for the last six to seven days, Kewal Singh, who has been waiting for over 10 days, and Jagjit Singh, who has been facing delays for over 20 days. Expressing their disappointment, the farmers explained how they had increased basmati cultivation on the back of last year's high prices, but received a strong silence from the government.
Farmers Levelled Serious Allegations against AAP
"Last year, they encouraged Basmati, but today, they have backed out, leaving us alone to face the consequences," a farmer told Waring. The PPCC chief accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of using cunning tactics to weaken Punjab's agrarian backbone. "While the BJP once tried to openly ruin us with the three black farm laws, this AAP government is attacking farmers in a new, clandestine way. By delaying procurement, they are destroying the livelihoods of farmers and labourers, pushing Punjab's economy to the brink, while they are wasting public money on empty advertisements and election campaigns in other states.
How did The Government's Action Fail Our Farmers?
Waring stressed that the government's action is not only failing the farmers but also effectively eroding the foundation of Punjab's agrarian economy. "It is our right to procure our produce on time and fairly. Yet, the government is determined to ruin Punjab's agriculture, hoping our crops rot in the mandi.
With a call for immediate action, Waring warned that the entire Punjab Congress is ready to launch widespread protests if the Mann-led government continues its neglect. "Punjab Congress will stand with our farmers on every front.
