School Fees Hike in Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has exposed the BJP government’s claim that private schools in Delhi have refunded increased fees to parents. AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj, citing replies given by Education Minister Ashish Sood to questions raised by Leader of Opposition Atishi in the Delhi Assembly, made this major disclosure.

School Fees Hike in Delhi: No Private School Has Refunded Increased Fees

Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the Education Minister himself admitted on the floor of the Delhi Assembly that not a single private school has refunded the arbitrarily increased fees collected over the past year. This, he said, clearly exposes the collusion between the BJP government and private schools.

Posting on X, Bharadwaj said the Education Minister’s replies during the Assembly session laid bare the nexus with private schools. He highlighted four key revelations:

  1. No private school has refunded the increased fees.

  2. Despite financial audits of private schools, the Delhi government has taken no action.

  3. Despite recommendations by a DM-led committee, no FIR was registered against DPS for harassment of students.

  4. The Delhi government has no record of private schools that increased fees in April 2025.

School Fees Hike in Delhi: Massive Fee Hike After BJP Came to Power

Saurabh Bharadwaj said that after the BJP formed the government in Delhi, almost all private schools increased their fees by 20% to 80% at the start of the academic session beginning April 1, 2025. Parents staged widespread protests against these hikes, following which, under pressure, the BJP Chief Minister and Education Minister Ashish Sood promised audits of private schools and assured that excess fees would be refunded.

He said the government was repeatedly asked about audit findings and subsequent action, but no clear response was given. As a result, AAP MLAs raised the issue in the Assembly. When asked how many schools were audited, the minister replied that 1,624 schools had undergone audits.

Delhi School News: No Disclosure of Irregularities or Penal Action

When questioned about which schools were found guilty of financial irregularities or profiteering, the government replied that the process was still ongoing and did not name any schools. Further, when asked how many schools were issued show-cause notices, fined, or had their recognition cancelled based on the audits by December, the response again was that the process was ongoing. This clearly indicates that no action has been taken against any school so far.

School Fees Hike in Delhi: Government Has No Data on Fee Hikes in 2025–26

Government Has No Data on Fee Hikes in 2025–26

Saurabh Bharadwaj said that when the government was asked to provide a list of schools that increased fees in the academic year 2025–26 along with details of the hike, the minister replied in writing that no such data was available. This means the government does not even know which schools increased fees or by how much. Similarly, the government had no answer on how many schools rolled back fee hikes due to government intervention—making it clear that no refunds were enforced.

DPS Dwarka Case: FIR Still Not Registered

Referring to the DPS Dwarka case, where students were allegedly harassed for non-payment of increased fees, made to sit in libraries, and bouncers were deployed, Bharadwaj said the minister claimed ignorance of the Delhi High Court’s remarks on the issue, stating it was “not relevant,” despite the Education Department being present in court.

He further said that a DM-led committee had recommended registering an FIR in the DPS case. When asked in the Assembly whether an FIR was filed, the government replied that the matter was pending before the Supreme Court. Bharadwaj termed this a false claim, stating that the Supreme Court has not stayed the registration of an FIR and the government is merely making excuses.

Saurabh Bharadwaj concluded that the Delhi government’s claims about audits were nothing more than a sham. Despite audit reports being completed, the government has not taken action against a single school nor ensured a refund for even one student. Even where the High Court acknowledged student harassment and the DM recommended an FIR, the Education Department under Ashish Sood continues to shield DPS Dwarka and has failed to register an FIR.
