Rekha Gupta Chhath Holiday:The grand Chhath festival of Bihar is celebrated with immense enthusiasm, with preparations beginning several days in advance. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that since this year’s Diwali in Delhi was celebrated on a grand scale, the Chhath festival, which is rooted in devotion and faith, will be equally divine. The government has made all necessary arrangements to enhance the celebration of Chhath, ensuring that devotees can observe the festival with complete devotion and purity. In a significant move, the Delhi government has announced a one-and-a-half-day holiday for the first time.
Rekha Gupta Chhath Holiday: One & a half day holiday announced

In a significant gift to the nearly 500,000 residents of Purvanchal, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a one-and-a-half-day holiday in Delhi for the first time. All government offices in Delhi will be closed from 2:00 pm on the 27th until the 28th. Previously, Chhath Puja was a one-day holiday, but now it will be a one-and-a-half-day holiday. This decision is also being linked to the upcoming elections in Bihar.
Chhath Ghat in Delhi: More than 1000 Chhath Ghats
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that this time, more than 1,000 Chhath ghats are being constructed across Delhi, including 17 special, grand model ghats along the Yamuna River. The government is also constructing at least one model ghat in each sub-district. Cultural programs related to Chhath Puja will also be held at approximately 200 ghats.

Chhath Puja Holiday: Cleanliness drive begins at Chhath Ghats

CM Rekha Gupta also mentioned that starting Wednesday, all Delhi MPs, MLAs, councillors, and other public representatives have initiated cleanliness drives at the Chhath ghats being prepared in their respective areas. She further shared that a few years ago, cases were filed against devotees performing Chhath Puja on the Yamuna, and the government has now decided to withdraw these cases.
Chhath Puja 2025: Government restrictions lifted
Chhath Puja is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of Delhi’s faith, culture, and devotion. The longstanding government ban on performing Chhath Puja on the Yamuna River has been lifted this year. The Chief Minister highlighted that the government is now developing worship sites along the Yamuna with all essential facilities for devotees. Model Chhath ghats are being constructed at 17 key locations along the riverbanks, stretching from Palla to Kalindi Kunj. Depending on local needs, these ghats will range in length from half a kilometer to one and a half kilometers.
In addition, at least one model Chhath ghat will be built in every district and sub-district, ensuring that devotees from all areas can celebrate the festival with ease and devotion.
