Ravi Naik Passes Away: Goa Former CM and Agriculture Minister, Ravi Naik passed away at the age of 70 on Wednesday. As per the sources, the reason behind death is said to be cardiac arrest. He suffered cardiac arrest at his hometown, 30 km away from Panaji and was shifted to a private hospital in Ponda town where he was declared dead around 1 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, two children, a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. The last rites would be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Mr. Naik’s demise. Taking to X, Mr. Modi said, “will be remembered as an experienced administrator and dedicated public servant who enriched Goa’s development trajectory. He was particularly passionate about empowering the downtrodden and marginalised. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”

Paying tributes to Mr. Naik, Goa CM Pramod Sawant also said that his leadership, humility and contribution to the public welfare will always be remembered.
“Deeply saddened by the demise of our senior leader and Cabinet Minister Shri Ravi Naik Ji. A stalwart of Goan politics, his decades of dedicated service as Chief Minister, and Minister across key portfolios have left an indelible mark on the state’s Governance and people.”

Goa agriculture minister: Who is Ravi Naik?

Ravi Naik served as a seven-time MLA, representing the Ponda assembly constituency six times and the Marcaim constituency once. Over the years, he contested elections under the banners of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Congress, and the BJP. He first entered the Goa Legislative Assembly in 1984 from Ponda on an MGP ticket and later won the 1989 election from Marcaim, also on an MGP ticket.
He went on to secure victories from Ponda in 1999, 2002, 2007, and 2017 as a Congress candidate, and in 2022, he won the seat on a BJP ticket.
Naik also held the position of Chief Minister of Goa twice. His first term, from January 1991 to May 1993, saw him leading a coalition government under the Progressive Democratic Front. In 1994, he became Goa’s shortest-serving Chief Minister, holding office for just six days, from April 2 to April 8.
In addition to his state-level roles, Naik served as a Member of Parliament representing North Goa in 1998 as a Congress candidate.
