Over 1.2 mn devotees joined in: This year, the Punjab government has dedicated the entire month of November 2025 to devotion and service, in memory of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru. It marks 350 years since his martyrdom — a sacrifice made for truth, humanity, and the protection of the oppressed. For the first time, the government is holding month-long, state-wide events under the title “Martyrdom Remembrance Month.”

The programs began on November 1st. Every day, Kirtan, Ardaas, and Katha are being held in Gurdwaras across all districts, both in the morning and evening. So far, more than 12 lakh (1.2 million) devotees have taken part. In major cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, daily Shaheedi Kirtan Darbars are drawing crowds from Punjab and beyond. Nagar Kirtans are also being held through main city routes. To keep everything smooth and safe, the administration has added more police, home guards, and medical teams for the entire month.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that Guru Sahib’s teachings should inspire not only prayer but also service to society. Following this idea, over 500 Seva Camps have been started across Punjab. Many camps are serving daily langar, while the Health Department has arranged 220 free medical camps, helping about 1.4 lakh people with checkups and medicines.

The Education Department has also started a Moral Education Drive across the state. More than 10 lakh (1 million) students from 20,000+ schools and colleges have written essays, poems, made posters, and given speeches about Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and sacrifice — showing that his message is not just history, but a timeless lesson in humanity. The government’s Digital Documentary Series on the Guru’s life has been watched millions of times online, bringing his story to homes across the state through technology.

On November 10th, special Kirtans and Ardaas are taking place everywhere. Thousands of devotees are visiting Amritsar and Sri Anandpur Sahib. Local committees worked all night to prepare — ensuring cleanliness, lighting, drinking water, parking, and security. Each district has a control room to help visitors and keep the arrangements smooth.

Chief Minister Mann said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice is the greatest example of religious freedom in history. The aim of these events is to teach every child that true religion means brotherhood, courage, and humanity — not hatred.
Throughout November, seminars and discussions on “Humanity and Religious Freedom” will be held in schools and universities.

These state-wide efforts show that Punjab not only remembers its history but lives its values. A strong sense of unity, service, and compassion is spreading from villages to cities, and from the young to the old. Everyone is repeating the same message:

“Where humanity is in danger, standing up for it is the true religion.”

Even after 350 years, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s courage, sacrifice, and compassion continue to live in the heart of Punjab.
