GRAP 3 in Delhi: Delhi people are reeling under the grip of Air Pollution. As per the reports, the capital’s air quality index (AQI) has been recorded in the “severe” category. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has imposed several stricter measures under the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) from Tuesday to improve the air quality.

According to the CPCB darta, Delhi’s average AQI on November 10th was 362, which falls in the “very poor” category. The very next day, at 9 a.m. on November 11th, it rose to 425, which falls in the “severe” category.

The circular mentioned that the preventive measure was in keeping with the Stage-3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) guidelines that have been imposed in the national capital after the air quality reached ‘severe’ levels.

GRAP, or Graded Response Action Plan, is a plan that provides for stricter action in stages based on pollution levels. GRAP-3 is implemented when the AQI reaches the “severe” category (between 401-450). Its purpose is to control pollution and protect public health.

Delhi Pollution vs Restrictions: Major restrictions imposed under GRAP-3

  • Ban on construction and demolition work: Non-essential construction work such as digging, piling, trenching etc. will be banned.
  • Ban on old vehicles: There will be a ban on the plying of BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel four-wheelers in Delhi and NCR districts.
  • Dumping and material transportation prohibited: Transportation of sand, cement and other construction materials in the open or on unpaved roads will be prohibited.
  • Stone crusher and hot mix plant closure: Units that do not run on clean fuel have been instructed to be shut down immediately.
  • Ban on diesel generator sets: Diesel generators will not be used anywhere except for essential services.
  • Control on buses and private vehicles: Entry of inter-state diesel buses will be banned.
  • Work from home advice: Private companies have been advised to allow employees to work from home or adopt a hybrid mode.
  • Online classes in schools: To protect children from pollution, it has been advised to stop physical classes up to class 5 and conduct online classes.
