Addressing a press conference on Saturday along with AAP leaders Prabhbir Singh Brar and Gurpratap Singh Sandhu, Dhaliwal said that nearly 65 lakh families in the state have been assured cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh under the scheme. He termed the initiative a major relief, especially for poor and middle-class families who often struggle to afford expensive healthcare.

Sharing a real-life example of the scheme’s success, Dhaliwal cited the case of Sulakhan Singh, a resident of village Gurdas Nangal in Gurdaspur district. A daily-wage labourer, Sulakhan Singh was suddenly diagnosed with a serious heart ailment, with doctors estimating the cost of treatment at around ₹3 lakh—an amount his family could not afford.
Under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, his health card was prepared within just one day. He then underwent a successful heart operation, including stent placement, at a private hospital in Amritsar without spending even a single rupee. Dhaliwal said that Sulakhan Singh’s safe return home is a strong response to critics who dismiss the government’s policies as mere “rhetoric.”
Punjab News: Mann Government Prioritises Healthcare, Slams Opposition’s Past Failures
Dhaliwal said that strengthening the infrastructure of education and healthcare remains the top priority of the Punjab government. By investing in these sectors, the government is laying the foundation for a secure future for coming generations. He added that previous governments left the poor burdened with debt due to costly treatments or deprived them of medical care altogether, whereas the Mann government has made healthcare a basic right for every citizen.
He further clarified that hospitals are being regularly monitored to ensure that patients face no inconvenience and that no hospital is allowed to demand additional payments from beneficiaries of the scheme. Targeting the opposition, Dhaliwal said that parties which ruled for decades while neglecting basic facilities are now unable to accept the change. He urged the public to get their health cards made and take full advantage of the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme.
