AAP worker killed in Delhi: The murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker Rachna Yadav has triggered sharp questions over Delhi’s law and order. Senior AAP leaders, including Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha, visited the bereaved family during a ‘shok sabha’ (condolence gathering), assuring all possible support.

The AAP Delhi State President pointed out that Rachna Yadav was killed just 400 metres from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s residence, yet the CM has not visited the family. The family remains terrified and unable to step outside their home, while police arrived an hour and a half after the incident. Despite CCTV footage clearly capturing the killers, Delhi Police has not made any arrests, deepening public concern about policing and governance.

Speaking to the media, Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the family’s harrowing situation:

“Rachna Yadav has two daughters. Two years ago, her husband was murdered. The very people who killed him were facing trial, and Rachna herself was pursuing the case in court. She was a key witness and was scheduled to testify, but before she could appear, the killers struck again.”

He added, “One can only imagine the condition of the entire family. For people living nearby, it is extremely shocking that someone was murdered in broad daylight. The CCTV footage shows the faces of both criminals, leaving no room for doubt. Despite this, Delhi Police has yet to make an arrest.”

Pointing to the location and sequence of events, Bharadwaj said: “Rachna Yadav, the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) president of BC Block, was murdered just 400 metres from CM Rekha Gupta’s home in Shalimar Bagh. Her two daughters are inconsolable. She had faced two earlier attacks — a firing incident and a previous attempt on her life. Just days ago, she had stepped out for a funeral procession and was returning home when two young men on a motorcycle called her name and shot her at the doorstep.”

He criticized the lack of response from the local administration: “Neighbours report that the CM lives nearby, yet she did not visit the family. A Chief Minister is not made for attending food events while a murder occurs in her locality. The police reached the scene an hour and a half after the incident, and the family could not even step out to get help due to fear.”

Senior AAP leader Sanjeev Jha, after attending the condolence meeting, tweeted: “The brutal murder of Rachna Yadav is not only a heinous crime but also raises serious questions about law and order. The culprits must not be spared. The Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns this barbaric murder and will fight at every level to ensure justice for the victim’s family. We stand firmly with the bereaved family.”

Public Concern Over Policing

The sequence of events, proximity to the Chief Minister’s residence, delayed police response, and absence of arrests despite clear CCTV evidence have raised serious public questions about law enforcement and governance in Delhi. Residents of Shalimar Bagh are reportedly living in fear, highlighting the urgent need for police action.
