China’s Silent Flood Weapon
The global perception of China is that it might go to great lengths to undermine others, which is why it is often regarded with suspicion. Last week, when Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang initiated the construction of the world's largest dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet, concerns arose from India to Bangladesh about whether China might use this dam as a 'water bomb.' This suspicion is rooted in the fact that the Yarlung Tsangpo River is known as the Brahmaputra River in India after it crosses Tibet. Originating from the Kailash region of the Himalayas, the river travels approximately 2900 kilometers before reaching the Bay of Bengal, covering 996 kilometers within India.
In the past years, the flow of this river in the Northeast has reduced and it has been believed that China is doing something, the dam that is being built now was being discussed for the last several years. It is said that this is the dream project of Chinese President Xi Jinping, but environmental scientists from all over the world were opposing any such dam, because this dam is going to be so big near the Tibet-India border that it will destroy the entire environment. Tibet itself will be destroyed, but the fragile plateaus of India and Bangladesh and the plain areas below will also be badly affected.
Satellite imagery specialist Damien Simon has shared the location of this dam, looking at it one can easily guess that this dam is being built in the area adjacent to Arunachal Pradesh. China is saying that it will include five hydro power stations. Talking about the cost, about 14473 billion rupees are going to be spent on its construction. China says that this dam is for green energy. But India does not think so at all. Indian experts see this dam of China as a new weapon against India, first of all, after the dam is built, China will release water into the Brahmaputra river on its own will. The talk of any agreement is meaningless because where does it listen to anyone in the world? Whenever it wants, it will spread drought in the area of the Brahmaputra and whenever it wants it will bring floods. The biggest danger is being called 'water bomb' by experts. Suppose that China releases all the water towards India at once, then what will happen? There will be devastation of floods from Arunachal Pradesh to Assam. That is why experts are saying that India should start preparing from now that if China really creates such a situation, will we be able to remain safe.
As I wrote earlier, there are not one but many reasons for this doubt on China, the memory of Covid-19 still remains when the whole world had come to a standstill. The corona virus spread from Wuhan city of China killed more than 15 million people worldwide. The world still suspects that the corona virus was created in a Chinese lab. The Chinese scientist Li Wenliang, who first reported the outbreak of the virus, was stopped by the Chinese police, later he himself became a victim of the corona virus. Now I remind you of an incident which you may have forgotten, although the new generation will hardly know about that incident. The date was 6th August 2010 and the place was Leh. Those of you who have visited Leh or have read about that area would know that clouds flying in the blue sky are seen there but the natural conditions there are such that less than 4 inches of rain falls annually. Snow falls there from November to April. A thick sheet of snow is spread but there is always a lack of rain.
Ladakh region is called cold desert, Leh is a city in Ladakh region, where suddenly more than 14 inches of rain fell in two hours in 2010. Since the mountains there are soft and so much rain never happens, that rain wreaked havoc and more than 250 people died, hundreds were injured. Naturally you will say what role can China have in the cloudburst? So let me remind you of an incident, in 2008 Olympics were organized in Beijing. Meteorologists were saying that it might rain during the opening ceremony. Everyone was worried but China fired more than a thousand rockets filled with silver iodide on the clouds and made the clouds rain away from Beijing. It is believed that clouds do not have their way in China. They will have to rain wherever China wants.
This is why there is still suspicion that China may have used clouds as a weapon in Leh. Could they easily transform river water into a water bomb? We are likely to encounter challenges, so we must start finding ways to neutralize the water bomb now. Additionally, China aims to become the world's superpower. Just as the United States and Russia instilled fear to achieve superpower status and continue to do so in various ways, China is attempting to instill its own fear similarly. While I do not blame China, the issue at hand is humanity. China seems determined to undermine humanity, and the situation is becoming truly alarming.
