Social Media Influencer's Death Raises Ethical Concerns

Published on

The rate of civilized society decreases, the sluggishness is haunting.

Now, even in the midst of sacred relationships, there is a stench of impulsivity.

Shame also became shameless, civilization and Sanskrit were destroyed.

The business of rudeness grew, and good deeds were recessed.

In the name of entertainment, when, obscene performances take place.

Seeing this, the soul trembles, the heart cries with cold.

The biggest impact of pornographic content is on our young generation. The increasing trend of online education has given smartphones in the hands of children, which has now made it difficult for parents to know that children are using phones only for studies. Moreover, access to pornographic content has become so easy that even minors can watch it without any hindrance. The filth being served on social media and OTT platforms is making the youth morally weak. Teenagers and youth who are not fully mature mentally start to have disorder in their ideals and behavior by seeing pornographic content, but everyone is only concerned about their profits, even if the next generation is going in the wrong direction. This situation has become so serious that strict steps need to be taken to stop it.

I have no hesitation in saying that YouTubers are spreading tremendous obscenity, but even the heinous murder of a YouTuber to stop obscenity cannot be tolerated in a civilized society. No one has the right to kill anyone.

YouTubers across Punjab are in a state of shock after the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari aka Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. Amritpal Singh Mehar, the mastermind of the assassination, is now being hailed as a "hero" in some parts of Punjab. Flex-boards depicting mehrs in Ludhiana with phrases like 'Qom Da Heera' (Jewel of Community) and 'Izzat De Rakhe' (Protector of Honour) have appeared, sparking outrage and concern.

What is even more worrying in this matter is that Malkiat Singh, the chief priest of the Golden Temple, has openly supported the Mehrs. Speaking on the matter, Malkiat Singh alleged that the victim had adopted a Sikh name with the intention of maligning the image of the Sikh community. He claimed that Kamal Kaur's name misled people that she belonged to a Sikh family.

"Sikh history is replete with instances where those involved in obscene activities were punished. "According to Sikh teachings, we are forbidden to listen to vulgar songs. People who spread obscenity and defame the community deserve such treatment. Nothing has gone wrong, this is not the first time this has happened. "

After the murder of Kamal Kaur, Amritpal Singh has now threatened to kill Amritsar-based social media influencer Deepika Luthra. Nihang Amritpal released the video threatening Deepika and said that if she does not stop making obscene videos, she will have to face the consequences. Another influencer, Simranjit Kaur, has also received death threats. Sirmanjit Kaur has a social media account in the name of Preet Jatti and she is also very popular. However, Amritpal Singh Mehron has fled abroad. The police have arrested two of his accomplices on charges of murder, but the question arises whether killing a woman wearing a religious robe is a big crime in itself. Surprisingly, Kanchan alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi had millions of forwards but only three people came to her funeral.

The debate between 'clean' and 'dirty' humour is very old, but the distinction between them is well understood, but it is only in the context of public outrage over certain incidents of obscenity or vulgarity that the need to maintain decency and morality is voiced. In this case, if anyone can match the stupidity of the participants in making sexually perverted comments, it is the enthusiasm of the complainants and the police, mainly because the material is being leaked beyond paid listeners. Even if the participants have thus put themselves at risk of prosecution, a mature society should think about whether someone should go to jail for such a literal crime. The tendency to lodge FIRs with the police whenever anybody has a complaint should also be condemned. Universal access to the Internet should not be an excuse for universal jurisdiction. This often leads to the matter reaching the Supreme Court (because the people named in such FIRs want to club different cases into one), which attracts attention and widens the scope of the debate. An extreme case, as it is, gives rise to extreme reactions but law enforcement and legal entities should not be over-zealous in their response. There is a law to curb obscenity and action should be taken with the help of law. If YouTuber influencers start being murdered, it will lead to a chaotic situation.

Content creators need to keep in mind the impact of the content they create on society. They have to seriously consider that every content of theirs affects every section of the society in some way or the other, so they should use their creativity in the interest of society. The audience should also understand what is right to watch and what is wrong, only when we oppose anti-social things from our side, then only their construction will be stopped. Preventing obscenity on social media and OTT platforms is not just a legal responsibility, but also our moral and social responsibility. Because no matter how many rules the government makes, unless we understand our responsibility socially, it is not possible to solve this problem, so it is necessary that everyone is strict on this subject.
