Bangladesh Tiptoes Towards China Affiliation
The manner in which the head of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, recently surrendered to China in order to invite Chinese investment in his country is completely against the interests of the Indian sub-continent. With this, it has also become clear that after August 5, 2024, the way the command of Bangladesh was handed over in their hands with the help of the army, it is a gathering of people who oppose India. It was on this day that Bangladesh's elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's regime was overthrown under the military-led military and she came to India for refuge. Since then, India has been trying to normalize India's relations with Bangladesh and the strong brotherhood between the two countries is not affected. But Mr. Yunus is proving by his actions that he wants to disturb the affinity towards India in his country and wants to strengthen with China.
Mr. Yunus went to China and said that the seven states of the North-East of India are surrounded only by land and therefore Bangladesh is the best country for China through the sea route where it can expand its economy. If you look at it with an open eye, it is like an offer to become an economic colony of China. However, China already has investment in Bangladesh. Yunus's assertion that his country is the only protector of maritime borders in the region fully reflects his attitude towards India. Bangladesh is geographically located in such a way that it can also cooperate in the protection of India's maritime borders. But the protection of India's maritime borders is linked to the proposal he has put forward to China. By inviting China to invest in Bangladesh, setting up industries here, sending its goods anywhere in the world through sea routes or bringing back finished goods to China, it is like making Bangladesh an economic colony in every respect. So far, those in power in Bangladesh have been saying that their security is linked to India's security. Because India has also been carrying out its commercial activities using the sea routes of Bangladesh. The narrow route connecting India to the northeastern states in particular goes through northern Nepal, which is called 'Chicken Neck'.
India has been using Bangladesh's sea routes with its cooperation, but now Yunus is giving an open invitation to China. This clearly shows what Yunus's intentions are. Bangladesh has a number of strategic ties with India. If Mr. Yunus is not aware of these treaties, it is his weakness. But the present ruling party of Bangladesh should know that their Government does not have the mandate of the people of Bangladesh and the system which is being followed in this country is not permanent. Elections are yet to be held in Bangladesh. Only then can the mandate be assessed. The present ruling party should also know that it was India that helped their country out of the bloody jaws of Pakistan. India played a major role in giving international legitimacy to the liberation struggle of this country fought in 1971 under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but what is the doom that the Yunus government is engaged in changing the history of this liberation struggle and is giving support to the pro-Pakistan political party Jamaat-e-Islami.
The whole world knows that in the month of December 1971, the Indian Army had surrendered to the Pakistani forces. China and America were also watching this scene. The US had then openly supported Pakistan and launched its seventh warship nuclear fleet in the Bay of Bengal. Despite this, America could not do anything because at that time the second superpower of the world was the Soviet Union with India. If Yunus's government wants the people of his country to forget this history, then it will be called their folly because any country progresses only when it learns a lesson from its history, but if Yunus is going to China and telling that his country has priority about the North-Eastern states, then this idea is a matter of concern for Indian diplomats. For the industrial development of the Eastern States, India has been sending heavy machinery, etc., using the sea routes of Bangladesh. Therefore, Yunus's statement that Bangladesh is the custodian of the sea routes of the Indian subcontinent shows that Yunus wants to keep India behind China. Whereas the reality is that after the formation of Bangladesh, India has cooperated in every field for its all-round development. But what is amazing is that Yunus is also entering into agreements to buy military equipment from the same Pakistan which had enslaved his country till 1971. It is obvious that the Government of India will give a befitting diplomatic reply to the Chinese maneuver of Bangladesh.
