Police Arrangements in Delhi

Published on:

Not only Delhi, but the metros of the country are struggling with rising crimes. Such increasing incidents in metropolitan cities create an atmosphere of fear. Incidents of theft, robbery, murders, rape, kidnapping are common, but in the present era, as science is progressing, the crime world is also moving forward by adopting hi-tech methods. Criminals are now engaged in robbing people using Artificial Intelligence. Every day we get to hear incidents of cyber crime. Millions are being extorted by threatening digital arrest. Governments, banking sector and social media are constantly working to make people aware. Still, people are falling prey to fraud. Tu-daal-daal-main paat-paat. Today's criminal has become so modern that he has learned the art of twisting the law. The criminal is in the process of finding out at what place and at what time the incident should be carried out so that the law does not harm him. Incidents of gang wars and extortion by threatening businessmen and industrialists are continuously coming to the fore in the metros. It is also a reality that the police cannot stand on every street and every nook and corner.

The world of crime is much bigger than the world of law. To curb crimes, there is a need to adopt hi-tech methods and maintain vigilance and special action plans. The national capital has also witnessed incidents of panic and blasts due to firing to extort money from businessmen, bomb threats in schools one after the other. Law and order has always been an issue in Delhi. Delhi's law and order is under the Union Home Ministry and Home Minister Amit Shah also reviews the law and order from time to time. The Home Minister continues to warn senior police officers bluntly that no negligence in law and order will be tolerated in Delhi. The government's policy against crimes has been zero tolerance. Delhi Police must ensure that crime is minimised. Fear should be instilled in criminals and Delhiites should feel a sense of security. Home Minister Amit Shah is very serious about the law and order situation in Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has now decided to appoint Jammu and Kashmir's Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Vijay Kumar as Special Commissioner of Police in Delhi. He has been heading the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Kashmir Valley for the past five years.

Vijay Kumar, a 1997-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (earlier Jammu and Kashmir) cadre, was appointed as the Inspector General of Police of Kashmir in December 2019, four months after the Centre scrapped the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories. Prior to that, he had led the anti-Naxal campaign in Chhattisgarh and helped in conducting the incident-free general elections (2019) in Naxal-affected south Bastar.

Vijay Kumar was brought back from Chhattisgarh to handle the law and order situation in the Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of Article 370. As the Kashmir Police chief, he was instrumental in implementing the Centre's Kashmir policy at the grassroots level. During his tenure, he led anti-militancy operations in which several terrorists were killed and police personnel received gallantry medals. After this, the number of local militants came down to 25, which is the lowest number so far. Not only this, Vijay Kumar also conducted police operations across the valley to reduce recruitment by local terrorist groups.

He had also played an important role in the Centre's Har Ghar Tiranga rallies held in Kashmir. He was awarded the National Award and has received 6 gallantry medals. Not only crime in metros, but India also faces bigger challenges. Referring to them at a regional conference on drug trafficking and national security, Home Minister Amit Shah said that dark web, cryptocurrency, online marketplace and drones remain a challenge. The government has not only succeeded in eliminating many drug networks but has also dismantled terrorist networks associated with them. The Central Government and technocrats are jointly working on technological solutions to new challenges for the security of the country. A major reason for the rising crimes is also the young generation suffering from drug addiction. It is expected that the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police force will fight the challenges to create a drug-free society. Delhi Police will also get new energy under the leadership of veteran officer Vijay Kumar and will be able to increase its efficiency to deal with challenges.
