Kejriwal on Hanging Room Issue: After being cleared of allegations in the liquor case, Arvind Kejriwal, National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, has continued his aggressive political stance.
After exposing the central government at a protest at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal on Friday strongly targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi.
Following his appearance before the Delhi Assembly’s Privileges Committee regarding the “Phansi Ghar” issue, Kejriwal said Delhi has been in a terrible condition over the past year, but the BJP government is not concerned about the problems of the people.
He alleged that the BJP is determined to insult martyrs and is therefore trying to prove that the “Phansi Ghar” was actually a “tiffin room”.
Kejriwal on Hanging Room Issue: Kejriwal Demands Proof From BJP
Kejriwal said he asked the government and the Assembly committee to provide proof that the alleged gallows site was a tiffin room. However, according to him, the BJP could not present any evidence.
He said this clearly shows that the BJP’s main aim is to divert attention from Delhi’s real issues and insult freedom fighters.
Kejriwal added that as long as the Aam Aadmi Party exists, such an attempt will never succeed.
Historical Background of Delhi Assembly Building
Kejriwal explained that the Delhi Legislative Assembly building is a historic structure.
He said that when the British shifted India’s capital from Kolkata to Delhi, the building was constructed in 1912.
According to Kejriwal, in 2022 the then Assembly Speaker Ramnivas Goel discovered that one corner of the building had a gallows where freedom fighters were hanged during British rule.
He said the then Speaker invited him as Chief Minister and suggested opening the place to the public so that people could learn about the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
Kejriwal said the gallows site was then opened and inaugurated.
BJP Trying to Prove It Was a ‘Tiffin Room’: Kejriwal
Kejriwal alleged that since the BJP government came to power, it has been trying to prove that the location was not a gallows but a tiffin room.
He said this is a major insult to freedom fighters.
Kejriwal said he told the Privileges Committee that the decision to identify the site as a gallows was taken only after proper investigation by the then Speaker.
He also asked the committee what evidence they had to claim that it was a tiffin room. According to him, they had no proof.
Kejriwal Raises Delhi’s Civic Issues
Kejriwal also told the committee that since the BJP government came to power a year ago, Delhi’s condition has deteriorated.
He said people in Delhi are unhappy and many are remembering the AAP government. According to him:

He questioned why the committee was wasting time on this issue instead of addressing Delhi’s real problems.
Kejriwal said he served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for ten years and has considerable experience in governance. He said he would have been happy if a committee had asked him how to fix sewer systems or repair roads.
Kejriwal said he is not concerned about which party is in power but wants Delhi to improve. However, he alleged that the BJP’s objective is not governance but politics. He said the most painful part of the controversy is that a place associated with the execution of freedom fighters is being described as a tiffin room.
Kejriwal’s Statement on X
In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote that a section of the Delhi Assembly built during British rule was used to hang freedom fighters. He said the site was revealed in 2022 so people could learn about it.
Kejriwal alleged that the BJP government is now trying to prove that it was not a gallows but a “tiffin room”.He said this is a serious insult to freedom fighters. He also added that while roads are damaged, electricity cuts are happening, and hospitals lack medicines, the BJP government is not focusing on the problems of Delhi’s citizens.

Security Lapse During Kejriwal’s Appearance Before Committee
During Kejriwal’s appearance before the Privileges Committee in the Delhi Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party alleged a serious security lapse.
When Arvind Kejriwal arrived at the Assembly, his Personal Security Officers were reportedly stopped outside by the Delhi Police and were not allowed inside the Assembly premises.
AAP said this was surprising because Kejriwal has been given Z+ security after several past attacks.
Saurabh Bharadwaj Raises Concerns
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said everyone knows that Kejriwal has faced multiple attacks in the past, which is why he has Z+ security cover. He questioned why Kejriwal was asked to enter the Assembly alone without his security team.
Bharadwaj said preventing Kejriwal’s security vehicle and personal staff from entering raises serious questions. According to him, it appears that the Delhi Assembly does not want to take responsibility for Kejriwal’s security.
