Delhi News: The Delhi government has taken a significant stride in advancing women’s empowerment. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, four landmark schemes have been launched to directly benefit women and daughters across the city. These initiatives focus on key areas including economic security, education, safe and accessible transportation, and the efficient delivery of pending government benefits.

The launch event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Honorable President, highlighting the importance and historic nature of these programs. Each scheme has been thoughtfully designed to address the needs of women at different stages of life, ensuring that they have the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive in a safe and empowering environment.

Delhi News: ‘Saheli Smart Pink Card’ for safe travel of women

Delhi News: 'Saheli Smart Pink Card' for safe travel of women

  • ‘Saheli Pink National Common Mobility Card’ has been launched to ensure safe and easy travel for women.
  • Through this card, women will get the facility of free travel in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.
  • This card is based on the concept of “One Nation, One Card”, which will make the use of public transport more simple and digital.
  • The government aims to enable women to travel safely for education, jobs and other purposes without any financial worries.

DBT assistance to LPG and PNG consumers

  • The government has launched the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to provide relief to domestic gas consumers.
  • Under this, the amount for gas cylinders will be sent directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries on major festivals like Holi and Diwali.
  • Every eligible consumer will be given assistance of ₹853, while beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will get additional assistance of ₹553.
  • Under this initiative, an amount of approximately ₹130 crore has been transferred directly to the accounts of women, which will provide financial support to the families.

‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ for the future of daughters

  • ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ has been started to secure the education and future of girls.
  • Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided at different stages from birth to graduation.
  • An amount of ₹61,000 will be deposited by the government, which will become around ₹1.25 lakh by the time of completion of graduation with interest.
  • The entire process has been kept digital and transparent, in which no paperwork will be required.
  • Orphan girls and daughters living in child care institutions have also been included in this scheme.
  • A provision of ₹128 crore has been made in the budget for this.

Distribution of pending amount under ‘Meri Punji Mera Adhikar’ scheme

  • The government has launched the ‘Meri Punji Mera Adhikar’ campaign to transfer the outstanding amount of Ladli Scheme to the beneficiaries.
  • Around 1.75 lakh beneficiaries have been identified under this scheme.
  • In the first phase, an amount of ₹90 crore was given to 30,000 girls through DBT, while in the second phase, ₹100 crore will be sent directly to the accounts of 40,000 girls.
  • This will solve the problem of pending payments for years.

Government’s commitment towards women empowerment

The government states that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, women’s empowerment has become a key goal of the country. The dream of a developed India will only be realized when women are economically strong, self-confident, and at the forefront of leadership. The Delhi government’s goal is to ensure that every daughter and every woman has their rights and can progress with dignity. These schemes are considered an important step in this direction.
