AAP vs BJP Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) presented a report card on the one-year tenure of the Delhi government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling it a complete failure across sectors. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the BJP government’s first year in office had been marked by “deception” toward the people of Delhi. He accused Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of failing women, the middle class, youth, the poor, and the entire city, citing unfulfilled promises, worsening pollution, demolition of slums, and what he described as a “fake Yamuna clean-up.”
Sisodia claimed that more than one lakh youth had lost their jobs, people were dying due to pothole-ridden roads, and yet the Chief Minister was celebrating the completion of one year in office. He further alleged that public services—including government schools, hospitals, and water supply—had deteriorated significantly, leading many citizens to recall the tenure of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
At a press conference held at the AAP headquarters on Friday, Sisodia, along with Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Kuldeep Kumar, unveiled a poster reading: “One Year of BJP, Delhi in Distress, Missing Kejriwal.” He clarified that AAP did not expect everything to change within a year, but alleged that the past year had been full of broken promises and misgovernance.
AAP vs BJP Delhi: Delhi Government Under Fire
1. ₹2,500 Monthly Promise to Women Not Fulfilled
Sisodia said the BJP government’s first major “betrayal” was toward women. He claimed that before the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had guaranteed ₹2,500 per month to women in Delhi, beginning March 8, 2025. According to Sisodia, the promise—referred to as “Modi’s guarantee”—was repeatedly made during campaign rallies. However, he alleged that the payment never materialized, even after a full year in office.
2. Allegations of Failure in Pollution Control
Sisodia accused the BJP government of failing to control pollution. He said that under Kejriwal’s government, measures such as dust control, fire control, vehicle restrictions, and the odd-even scheme were implemented. In contrast, he alleged that Delhi experienced historically poor AQI levels under the BJP government. He further accused the administration of manipulating AQI monitoring data by shutting or relocating monitoring stations and using water sprinklers around them to artificially lower readings.
3. Middle Class “Betrayed” Over Private School Fees
Sisodia alleged that the middle class had been “stabbed in the back,” claiming that private schools sharply increased fees soon after the BJP came to power. He said fee hikes ranged from 30% to even double or triple in some cases, and accused the government of failing to regulate private institutions. He also alleged harassment of parents and students over unpaid fees.
4. ‘Fake Law’ on School Fees
He further claimed that despite introducing a law to regulate school fees, the BJP government did not take action against private schools, and no meaningful relief was provided to parents.
5. Changes in Government Schools and Curriculum
Sisodia criticized the government for allegedly reducing the budget for public schools and discontinuing initiatives introduced during AAP’s tenure. He claimed that the “Schools of Specialized Excellence” were shut down or renamed, and programs such as the Happiness Curriculum, Entrepreneurship Curriculum, and free IIT/NEET coaching were discontinued. He also alleged that advanced teacher training programs abroad were stopped.
6. Slum Demolitions
According to Sisodia, the BJP had promised “housing where slums exist” before the elections but instead launched demolition drives after coming to power. He alleged that many slum dwellers and residents of unauthorized colonies were rendered homeless.
7. Yamuna Clean-Up Claims
Sisodia accused the government of falsely claiming that the Yamuna River had been cleaned ahead of Chhath Puja. He alleged that the administration created a “fake Yamuna” to showcase cleanliness, calling it a major deception.
8. Job Losses and Employment Issues
Sisodia alleged that over one lakh contractual employees were removed from government jobs after the BJP came to power. He also claimed that bus marshals, healthcare workers, data entry operators, and other staff were dismissed, contributing to rising unemployment.
9. Health System “Paralyzed”
He alleged that free medicines and tests in government hospitals had stopped, forcing patients to seek services outside. He also claimed that hospital construction projects initiated during AAP’s tenure had stalled or were being handed over to private entities.
10. Sanitation, Sewage, and Civic Issues
Sisodia accused the government of failing to reduce garbage mountains and improve cleanliness. He also alleged that sewer overflows and contaminated drinking water had become common problems under the BJP government.
11. Road Safety and Infrastructure
He criticized the poor condition of roads, alleging that potholes were causing accidents and fatalities, while the government remained focused on celebrations.
12. Ration Cards and Pensions
Sisodia claimed that around 8 lakh ration cards had been canceled and that pensions for widows and elderly citizens had been discontinued, impacting vulnerable populations.
13. Law and Order Concerns
Finally, Sisodia alleged that the BJP government had failed to ensure public safety, citing reports of missing persons and rising crime. He contrasted this with Kejriwal’s approach of visiting victims and expressing solidarity, even though law and order falls under central jurisdiction.
Conclusion
The AAP leadership concluded that the BJP government’s first year had left Delhi “distressed” and claimed that many citizens were recalling the governance style of Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP government, however, has rejected such allegations, maintaining that it is focused on development and long-term reforms.
