Stock Market Today January 14: Amid concerns over increasing difficulties in Iranian crude oil exports and continued outflows of foreign investment, the Indian stock market opened lower today. At 9:25 AM, Sensex was down 74 points or 0.09 percent at 83,552, and Nifty was down 12 points or 0.05 percent at 25,719. The broader market indices showed slight divergence from the benchmark indices, with Nifty Midcap 100 remaining unchanged, while Nifty Smallcap 100 rose by 0.48 percent.
Top Company Shares Today

In the Nifty, ONGC, Coal India, and NTPC were among the top gainers. Sectoral indices showed a mixed trend, with most trading in the red. The Nifty Metal and Oil & Gas indices were among the top gainers, rising by 0.84 percent and 0.32 percent respectively. Notably, oil prices surged by 2.8 percent, reaching a seven-week high, due to rising tensions in Iran stemming from nationwide anti-government protests and public support for the protesters from US President Donald Trump.

In the early trading session on NSE, sectoral performance showed a mixed trend. Nifty Auto index fell by 0.08 percent, while the Nifty FMCG gained 0.06 percent. Nifty IT index declined by 0.29 percent, and Nifty Media index fell by 0.25 percent. Conversely, Nifty Metal index rose by 0.25 percent, while Nifty PSU Bank index gained 0.21 percent.
Expert on Stock Market

Asian-Pacific markets saw mixed trading during the morning session as traders analysed China’s December export growth figures, which were better than expected. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index surged more than 1.5 percent amid growing speculation that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi might call a snap election in February. Across Asian markets, China’s Shanghai Composite index rose 1.2 percent, Shenzhen Component index gained 1.98 percent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index climbed 1.57 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index advanced 0.8 percent. South Korea’s KOSPI index edged up 0.17 percent.
