Stock Market Today February 17: The Indian stock market continues to fluctuate. Today’s trading session opened in the red. At 9:23 am, Sensex was down 175 points or 0.21 percent at 83,098, and the Nifty was down 78 points or 0.31 percent at 25,572. Metal stocks were putting pressure on the market in early trading.

As a result, Nifty Metal and Nifty Commodities were the top losers among the indices. The Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Oil & Gas, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Realty, Nifty Services, Nifty Infra, Nifty Energy, and Nifty PSU Bank indices also declined. On the other hand, Nifty India Defence, Nifty IT, Nifty Pharma, and Nifty FMCG were in the green.

On the other hand, small-cap and mid-cap stocks were trading mixed. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index was trading marginally higher by 5.60 points at 17,056, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index was trading lower by 125 points at 59,597. Among the Sensex pack, Asian Paints, Infosys, BEL, Indigo, HCL Tech, ITC, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, SBI, L&T, and Titan were among the gainers. Eternal, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Trent, HDFC Bank, and NTPC were among the losers.

Global markets were trading mixed. Tokyo and Hong Kong were trading in the green, while Bangkok was trading under pressure. Shanghai, Seoul, and Jakarta markets remained closed. Commodity markets remained weak. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index fell more than 1 percent to 56,214. Singapore’s Straits Times index rose 0.02 percent to 4,938, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.52 percent to 26,705. Markets in Taiwan and South Korea were closed for holidays.
