Stock Market Today 5 May: Indian stock markets opened in the red on May 5 as tensions between the United States and Iran escalated once again.
In early trade, the BSE Sensex fell 165.65 points or 0.21% to 77,103.72, while the Nifty 50 declined 66.70 points or 0.28% to 24,052.60. At the time of writing, the Sensex had dropped nearly 200 points, with the Nifty also trading lower.

The banking sector featured prominently among the top losers in early trade. The Nifty Bank index slipped 258 points or 0.47% to 54,619.

Global Markets Also Trade Lower
Global markets were also under pressure alongside Indian equities. Major markets such as Australia and Hong Kong opened in the red, while Bangkok and Jakarta were also trading lower.
Markets in Japan and Shanghai remained closed due to national holidays. Meanwhile, US markets ended the previous session in the red.
