Stock Market Today 22 Dec: Taking positive cues from Asian markets, Indian equity markets opened higher on Monday, but tariff-related concerns continued to weigh on overall market sentiment. By 9:30 AM, the Sensex had risen 507 points or 0.60 percent to 84,436, and the Nifty had gained 165 points or 0.64 percent to 26,132. Broad market indices performed in line with the benchmarks, with the Nifty Mid cap 100 rising 0.58 percent and the Nifty Small cap 100 gaining 0.51 percent.

In the Nifty pack, Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, and TCS were among the top gainers, while Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, Max Healthcare, and Cipla suffered losses. All sectoral indices on the NSE were trading in the green, with Metal, IT, and Media being the top gainers, rising by approximately 1.48%, 1.23%, and 0.77%, respectively.
Expert on Stock Market
Analysts believe the market is likely to rally towards end of the year. The depreciation of the rupee and buying by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) in the cash market could further fuel this rally, as it leads to short covering and a surge in benchmark indices. They further added that favourable domestic economic conditions and a potential earnings growth trend could support the market rally.
Asian Market Today
On the last trading day, US markets closed mostly in the green, with the Nasdaq rising 1.31 percent, the S&P 500 gaining a modest 0.88 percent, and the Dow advancing 0.38 percent. Asia-Pacific markets rallied on Monday as investors analyzed the Chinese central bank’s decision to keep its key lending rate unchanged. In Asian markets, China’s Shanghai Composite index rose 0.64 percent, while the Shenzhen Composite index fell 1.36 percent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 1.75 percent, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.29 percent. South Korea’s KOSPI index advanced 1.72 percent.
