Stock Market Today 12 Feb: The Indian stock market kicked off Thursday, February 12, on a weak footing, with benchmark indices opening in the red amid early selling pressure.
The 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 265.21 points, or 0.31%, at the opening bell to start the session at 83,968.43. The NSE Nifty 50 also mirrored the cautious mood, declining 47.15 points (0.18%) to open at 25,906.70.
Selling intensified in early trade. By 9:23 am, the Sensex had extended its losses to 381 points, trading at 83,851, while the Nifty 50 dropped 107 points to 25,846 — signaling a shaky start to the day on Dalal Street.
Stock Market Today 12 Feb: Market opened in the red mark
Indian stock markets opened in the red on Thursday. The market’s decline after three consecutive sessions of gains raised investor concerns. Both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 indexes opened lower.
Sensex and Nifty opening positions
The BSE Sensex opened at 83,968.43, down 265.21 points from its previous close of 84,233.64. The NSE Nifty 50 also opened at 25,906.70**, down 47.15 points from 25,953.85. As of 9:28 am, the Sensex was trading 405.13 points lower at 83,828.51 and the Nifty was down 113.45 points at 25,840.40. In the broader market, the midcap and smallcap indices also opened with losses. The Nifty Midcap fell 0.78% and the Nifty Smallcap fell 0.98%.
Sector-wise performance
The IT sector was the worst hit among Sensex and Nifty stocks, falling by more than 4%.
