Cigarettes and tobacco products will become more expensive

The government is set to hike taxes on pan masala, cigarettes, and other tobacco products, with prices expected to rise from February 1, 2026. The increase will come through higher excise duty and additional cess, on top of the regular GST. As a result, consumers will feel the pinch as these products become noticeably more expensive.

Changes in credit card rules also

Several major banks are updating their credit card policies starting February 1, 2026. HDFC Bank Infinia Metal cardholders will now have a limit on the number of times they can redeem reward points each month. ICICI Bank is also removing the free BookMyShow movie ticket benefit from certain cards. Additional changes to rewards programs may also be introduced.
