LPG prices up by Rs 50, Petrol & Diesel excise duty increased
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has announced that the price of LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 50. This increase will be applicable to both the Ujjwala scheme and general consumers. The government also hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each, but it will not have an impact on retail prices.
New Delhi: Distribution companies have increased the price of cooking gas (LPG) by Rs 50 per cylinder, effective from March 30, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Monday.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the price hike will affect both Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries and general consumers. For general consumers, the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will rise from Rs 803 to Rs 853. Under the Ujjwala scheme, the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder will go up from Rs 503 to Rs 553.
Excise duty on petrol and diesel increased
The government raised the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each on Monday due to declining international crude oil prices, as stated in an official order. Nevertheless, this move will not impact the retail prices of petrol and diesel. Oil companies confirmed that retail prices have stayed the same despite the excise duty increase.
Effective April 8, 2025
As per a government order, the excise duty on petrol has been increased to Rs 13 per litre and to Rs 10 per litre for diesel, effective from April 8, 2025. Although tax changes typically affect consumer prices, this hike in excise duty will not impact the retail prices of petrol and diesel. The recent significant drop in international crude oil prices will benefit petroleum companies, compensating for the increased excise duty.
