On Friday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, launched a World Bank report titled ‘Jobs at Your Doorstep: A Jobs Diagnostics for Young People,’ which focuses on six states in India.

Pradhan praised the World Bank team for their thorough report and encouraged them to implement a comprehensive pan-India framework.

He stated, “The detailed analysis on skilling and employment will help stakeholders develop new structures and formulate forward-thinking policies to empower our population.”

The "Jobs at Your Doorstep" report acts as both a diagnostic tool and a strategic roadmap.

  • It focuses on creating linkages and convergence between education and the job market in India.

  • The report examines the job landscape in six states: Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Rajasthan.

  • It identifies key priority sectors with the highest employment potential.

  • The report highlights roles that are most likely to offer job opportunities for young people graduating from secondary school.

"Bridging Skills Gaps: Aligning School Trades with Industry Needs in STARS States"

-The report is a skills gap analysis aimed at aligning trades offered in schools with the industry-specific needs of the districts where these schools are located.

-The study was launched to reimagine skill education through detailed primary and secondary research across six STARS states.

-The World Bank is assisting the Ministry of Education in its Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) program, which covers Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Rajasthan (the STARS states).

-The STARS Scheme also has a national component that facilitates the sharing and dissemination of key reforms for implementation.

-The report highlights the benefits of integrating skill-based education from Classes 9-12, preparing students for a variety of career options.

-A bottom-up approach is employed, diving deep into districts within the six states, which have diverse socio-economic profiles.

-The findings suggest how both industry and government can collaborate to contribute to the jobs agenda.

Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to position India as a global skills hub, Pradhan stated that the country's population will be the key driver of the global economy. To achieve this, skill development must start at the school level, with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aiming to integrate skilling into the school curriculum.

The Government of India has set an ambitious goal of transforming the economy into a high-income nation by 2047. To realize this vision of a productive economy, it is crucial for the country to urgently tackle the challenges in its employment sector and equip its workforce for the future, according to the official statement.
