Bihar Bird Flu: Approximately 4,575 chickens were culled in Patna after avian influenza was confirmed among birds at a government-run poultry facility. The infection was detected at the Poultry Research and Training Centre operated by Bihar Animal Science University, located in Kaushal Nagar, Chitkohra, near the city airport in Patna.
According to officials, samples collected from the birds were sent for laboratory testing, which subsequently confirmed the presence of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu. Following the confirmation, the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department directed authorities to take immediate preventive action to contain the outbreak and prevent its spread to other poultry farms in the region.
As part of the emergency response measures, all chickens housed at the centre were humanely culled and buried in accordance with biosecurity and disease-control protocols. The department also initiated sanitization and surveillance operations in and around the affected premises, including monitoring nearby poultry establishments and restricting the movement of birds and related materials from the area.
Officials stated that the swift action was aimed at minimizing the risk of further transmission and safeguarding both the poultry industry and public health. Additional precautionary steps, including heightened vigilance and awareness among poultry farmers, are expected to continue in the coming days.
Bihar Bird Flu
Acting on the orders of the District Magistrate of Patna, authorities have imposed a complete ban on the movement of chickens and roosters both within the municipal limits and beyond. The district administration has designated a one-kilometer radius around the affected poultry facility as a containment zone, while a nine-kilometer radius has been marked as a surveillance zone to closely monitor any potential spread of infection.
The transportation of eggs, live poultry, and poultry feed into or out of these restricted areas is strictly prohibited unless accompanied by a valid sanitation certificate. Officials have also intensified monitoring efforts in the densely populated areas surrounding Chitkohra Bridge near the airport, given the heightened risk due to population density.
Additionally, strict biosecurity measures have been enforced at the poultry farm premises, including a mandatory mask requirement for anyone entering the area. Authorities have stepped up vigilance and preventive protocols to ensure the outbreak remains contained and does not spread further.
