PM 2.5 are very small particles present in air pollution and are smaller than 2.5 micrometers.
These particles go into the atmosphere by burning smoke and coal emanating from vehicles and when a person breathes, these small particles go into the lungs through breath.
According to the World Health Organization, the PM 2.5 level in any area should be less than 100. But in Delhi and surrounding areas, it is more than 300.
Dr HC Khilnani, former HOD of the Department of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at AIIMS, explains that PM2.5 concentration of more than 100 can cause many dangerous diseases.
In areas where PM 2.5 levels are consistently high, people are at a higher risk of developing respiratory diseases.
Wear masks, use air purifiers at home, eat a healthy diet. Do not exercise outside the house.
